YMCA BEARS MEET SCHEDULEAll swim meets will start at 5:30pm with warm-ups starting at 4:30pm. We ask that swimmers report to the pool 5-10 minutes before warm ups and claim a spot in the area designated for our team. Depending on the number of participants, meets will typically last between 2 and 4 hours. The coaching staff will try and have all meet entries posted at practice the day before a meet. It is a good idea for parents to record event numbers on the back of their swimmer’s hand/arm with a permanent marker. Coaches, particularly the Head Coach, may not have time to do this before the meet. Please help us make sure your children know what events they are entered to swim on meet day.
* meet begins at 5:30 pm If you will not be in attendance for a certain meet please make note of this on the Bears Bulletin Board by the swim team office at least 3 days prior to the day of the meet. If you have not notified the coaches and do not show up to meet, your swimmer will be ineligible to swim in the next scheduled meet. Extenuating circumstances can be discussed with Coach Hawkins and will be handled on a case-by-case basis. IMPORTANT DATES
SWIM FOR CANCEREvery year the CSA organizes a drive for the American Cancer Society. All of the swim clubs participate by having their swimmers get pledges for a "per lap donation" or flat donation that can go to this great cause. One day of practice is set-aside for the swimmers to swim their laps (up to 20 per swimmer) in order to collect the pledged donations. This will be the CSA’s 35th Annual Swim for Cancer, making it the American Cancer Societys’ longest running charitable event. The Bears collected several hundred dollars for the ACS last year and are hoping to collect even more in 2008! Swimmers who collect at least $75 in pledges will earn a pass to Emerald Point Water Park, as well as other recognitions for collecting $100, $200, etc. CITY MEETCity meet is a 3-day event at Lindley Park Pool in Greensboro that brings together over 1500 swimmers from all of the 23 CSA teams. Each team is assigned a tent that serves as a base for that team’s swimmers. The coach will post entries for City Meet over a week in advance so your swimmer will know on which days and times they will be swimming. This year’sCity Meet is scheduled for July 10th, 11th, and 12th and each of the three days is an all day event for swimmers and families. In the Friday-Saturday session of the City Championships (July 11-12), the youngest age group is 8 and unders. Therefore, swimmers under 7 will either compete in the Thursday championship (July 10) or as 8 and unders in the Friday-Saturday sessions. More detailed information will be distributed concerning City Meet closer to the event. |
